Lake Volta Boat Trip

This was day 100 of my trip, and what a nice way to celebrate, by chilling out on a boat trip up Lake Volta.

Some Locals We Met

It was quite the party boat, and it was nice that there were more Ghanaians than tourists. The locals really got into the music and most of them spent the whole journey dancing to the live band.

Bas, Ellie, Maryanna

The brief moment of quiet after getting off the boat at Dodi Island, before the locals and kids started hassling us for money and gifts.

Dodi Island

After the short walk over the hill from the boat, we found the reason why so many people were on the island. As we had not even seen one hut on our approach.

Lake Volta From The Boat

All the way up we had stunning views of the lush green hills surrounding the lake.

Kuku Cottage, Osu, Accra

This was the place Bas and Ellie told me about and I stayed at for the week. It was really useful as it is only 200 meters from Cantonments Road (Osu, main street).

Bas and Ellie At Ryan's Pub

This was taken the night Holland got kicked out of Euro 2004 football semi final. The smiles are explained by the fact that the picture was taken before the game finished.

Fresh Coconut

I took advantage of the fact that I was sleeping under Coconut palms and successfully open one of the fall nuts.

Anomabu Beach Resort

This is a nice place to chill out for a few days. Especially if you like surfing as there are free body boards you can borrow. No clean corners, but the waves are large enough to have a good time on.

If you take a walk in either direction you soon find out that the local Ghanaians use the beach as a toilet. But the section in front of the resort is kept really clean.
